A Snippet Dream
This morning, just before waking, I had a snippet dream. These are very short dreams, sometimes only an image. But, they can be so layered. They are always vivid and highly symbolic in nature.
I want to share with you my dream because dreams are one of the many ways God speaks: he warns, he instructs, and he promises. Learning to interpret our dreams can keep us responsive to God’s will in our lives. Many people in scripture were aided by dreams include the Magi that worshiped Jesus soon after he was born, as well as Joseph, the man who raised Jesus as a child.
Keep in mind, a key ingredient when interpreting dreams given to you by Jesus; he is very punny. If you wake from a dream saying to your friend, “It looked like I was piloting a war-ship.” Consider that he might be leading you to WOR-SHIP. The more you interpret your dreams with this lens you might wear out forehead from slapping it as you roll your eyes and say, “Seriously? Jesus, every time?” Start with punny and a scripture reference. If you can’t think of anything, write it down. Eventually, maybe in some years, you’ll read the scripture and the dream will begin to make sense. You might also “cross checkpoints” where the feeling of your life matches the feeling of a dream. These dreams, I find, where planned for times in my life when I didn’t know what I was doing and yet, because I felt a “checkpoint” I felt like God had my life on his sovereign right hand. This morning, though, was a snippet.
Snippet dream - define; a dream of short duration, which is symbolic and vivid. excerpt: The Unpublished Dictionary of Bethany
The dream was mostly one image, lasting briefly. It lasted long enough for me to see the water moving. The image was of a river, and the river had two streams flowing side-by-side. The strangeness of this dream was the direction of the water. The streams in the same river traveled in opposite directions. And, I was traveling on the water. It felt like I was floating. As far as I could tell, there was no boat.
I awoke into excitement because of the dream. And, I had in mind the thought (as a sensation) of a promise fulfilled. This is the scripture, I believe, it was referring to:
“Your basket and kneading bowl will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will march out against you in one direction but flee from you in seven.”
DEUTERONOMY 28:6
I believe, it was a visual communication of the idea “coming in and going out.” When I saw a post shared by David Goundry quoting a pastor in Livi, Ukraine, today, praising God for the miraculous help that God has been providing, from lost missiles to tanks running out of fuel and Russian solders getting lost in the streets, I thought of my dream this morning.
I think, we need to call this scripture over the country of Ukraine that they might be saved without violent effort, but by the awesome power of God.
Prayer
“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.”
Isaiah 41:17 KJV
I praise and bless the name Jesus of Nazareth, Holy One of Israel. Lord God, I ask for your help to deliver Ukraine from this Russian invasion. Our eyes are on you. You can place every storm, peaceably, beneath our feet. It is your ways to give good for evil. We are done witnessing calamity and injustice. Let your peace pour out over Ukraine. What hope does Ukraine have without you? But when they have nothing with which to help themselves, you can be their help. Snuff out this war, Father God. Let Russia flee in seven directions from Ukraine. Amen.
